If it’s for my daughter, I’ll even use an electric light

Here’s a shot from the latest episode of If it’s for my daughter… Notice anything that looks funny in the faux-medieval fantasy setting?

Well, for one thing, the furniture is entirely modern, right? I mean, look at that chair! But what really lights my bulb is this:

And this:

Electric lamps! Those are electric lamps, right? Surely electricity isn’t commonplace in Kreuz! Or did Thomas Edison make a brief interdimensional stop on his way to hang out with Senku in Dr. Stone? (It is anime, after all. Could happen, just sayin’.)

Further weirdness: In the previous episode, we get this little treat.

Again, ignore the Walmart DIY furniture and the discount dorm carpet. Take a look at that globe:

Is that… Australia? And I can clearly make out China, India, Japan, Indonesia, etc.

Does If it’s for my daughter take place on standard, historical Earth?!

We’ve only got limited options here, folks. Either this is Earth and they have knowledge of the entire globe’s geography, or they live in a different world and know in detail what our whole planet looks like.

The rabbit-hole runs deeper. Not only do they have accurate geographical knowledge (of the sort you could get by, say, passing over the Earth in a spaceship), but also of European culture! How else to explain that North is arbitrarily represented as “up”? There’s no natural reason to. Ancient China had south as “up” on their maps. Somehow, the Kreuzfolk have intimate insight with conventions from our culture.

And they use that mysteriously-acquired knowledge of an alternate reality as a child’s bedroom decoration. Because why not?

I guess Dale really will do anything for his daughter!
