WOW! We just received our first blog award!!!

Arthifis, you made my day, man. Thank you, thank you, for the nomination.

So let’s see… what does a blog award actually entail?

  • Share the link of the blogger who has shown love to you by nomination you
  • Answer the questions they ask you
  • In the spirit of sharing love and solidarity with our blogging family, nominate 8-13 people for the same award!
  • Ask them three questions

Hmm… sounds simple enough. So first of all, be sure to check out Arthifis’ blog and follow if you enjoy a delightful variety show about anime, video games, life, and anxiety. (Seriously, that last one is an important topic and hats off to Arthifis for addressing it.)

Next, he asks the following questions:

  • What kind of show/book/anime/videogame (basically anything from the entertainment industry) are you into right now?

Notice that he asked “kind”, not specific shows/books/etc. So we’ll be mentioning genres. 🙂

Shows: Since “shows” are distinguished from “anime” in the question, I’ll mention non-anime here. And my answer is… not much of anything? Unless you count Twitch streamers or YouTubers. Or animesque shows like RWBY, which is incredible!

Books: Lately I’ve been really enjoying Ways of Confucius and of Christ and the John Wu translation of the Tao Te Ching. Heavy stuff, you might think, but I find it pretty refreshing.

Anime: Ok, now we’re approaching my territory! Fantasy in most of its forms: isekai (Gate), sucked-into-a-video-game (Overlord, SAO), alternate history (Code Geass), you name it (Interviews with Monster Girls). Also, things that are rather sui generis (Place Beyond the Universe, Erased). And some pretty good feel good shows, like Berserk Black Clover, How to Keep a Mummy.

Videogames: As a Twitcher, I play quite a few! On stream, I often play Subnautica, although Twitch Prime just released a free bundle of games for subscribers and so I’ve been jumping into those cold. 😀 Saturday it was Tales from Candlekeep, Sunday I played Shadow Tactics, and tomorrow night I’ll stream Oxenfree. As I said, I do these cold: No knowledge or research on the game ahead of time. It makes for a very interesting experience…!

Off-stream, I love Path of Exile (best girl: Nessa), Closers Online (best girl: Levia), and Heroes of the Storm (best girl: Alextraza). Long-time fan of Starbound (best girl: um… Nuru?) and Terraria (Dryad), not to mention Stardew Valley (Emily). So genre-wise: MMOBA/MMORPG, Survival, and Sandbox would probably sum up my favs.

Others = Manga: As readers of my blog know, where would my Mondays be without Weekly Shonen Jump to bring me my weekly dose of manga meditation? Black Clover (Mimosa) shines here, as does My Hero Academia (Mei Hatsume, of course!), and I also enjoy Boruto (Mitsuki Sarada)—Shonen ftw! But apart from the WSJ serials, you can also find freebie series on Viz Media’s site, like Astra Lost in Space, a fun and twisty space conspiracy; or MHA‘s dark cousin, My Hero Academia: Vigilantes, which seems determined to subvert the shonen idealism of the original series.

Others = Webtoons: Oh my gosh, there are so many fun series on Webtoons.com! Let me just run through the list of series I follow:

  • Noblesse (long-running epic re-imagining of vampires)
  • unOrdinary (subversion of shonen genre)
  • Nothing Special (cute, funny fantasy)
  • Let’s Play (romcom about gamers)
  • Magician (very long-running fantasy epic)
  • Siren’s Lament (best love triangle ever)
  • Space Boy (the feels! oh, the feels!)
  • Newman (this is the funniest fantasy story ever written)

Ok, I’m gonna break it off right there: I follow quite a few more. I basically wake up each morning and read the webtoons that have updated first thing.

  • Is there anything you would change about yourself?

Who me? Nope, I’m perfect just as I am.

Haha, just kidding. (You knew that, right?) Of course there is.

What, you want to know what I’d change about myself? But that’s not what the question asked. ;-p Ok, then: I wish I had more energy. That would make it easier to do all the things I need to do but get burned out doing.

  • If you only could use 3 words to describe your blog which ones would you choose and why?

Curiously Dead Cat, ’cause that’s its name. Oh, that doesn’t count? Ok, then: Positive, uplifting, fun. Because it’s supposed to be all those things.

Nominate 8-13 other bloggers

Ho boy, I’m sure at least some of my candidates have been nominated for this before, but I’ll try to pick those that haven’t (and haven’t sworn off awards; apologies if I miss one here):

Medieval Otaku

Beneath the Tangles

Mechanical Anime Reviews

Anime Q and A

Wretched and Divine

Of Midnight Ravings

Jon Spencer Reviews

Welcome to Hell Zone!

Finally, ask three questions:

  • Who is your favorite philosopher, and why?
  • What’s a little-known anime (if not that, then some other little-known title in any kind of media) that you think is great and everyone should know about?
  • What’s the best piece of wisdom you can give new bloggers starting out?

And here’s an anime joke for you:

Q: What school did Lelouch vi Britannia attend?

A: My Zero Academia

Peace out, people!

  1. I love this kind of things because you end knowing the people you tag so much more! I love sleeping and I’ve embraced it entirely at this moment, but there was sometime in the past where I wanted to be a vampire just so I wouldn’t have to sleep and have energy all the time, so yeah I completely understand you! It’s difficult to do everything when you need at least 8 hours daily sleep as myself >.<

    1. Thank you, OJ! I did enjoy my limited play through on Wednesday. Have you played it all the way through?
