Hey, everyone! It’s been about two years since I started curiouslydeadcat.com. 😺 Even though I haven’t been posting as much lately (you have conferences to thank for that) I really appreciate all of your support and your comments when I do post. As I periodically remind you, I pledged when I started this blog to run it for at least five years: So two down and three to go! I couldn’t have done it without your encouragement.

And recently, as faithful readers know, I decided to branch out from only talking about anime. Not long ago I did a non-review of Savage Lands. A lot of people compare Savage Lands (usually unfavorably) to Ark: Survival Evolved; so I decided to pick that up while it was on sale, as it will I believe through December 3rd, and to give it a shot. And man, it’s worth every penny! whistle

As with Savage lands, my first death occurred in the water. In this case, however, it wasn’t really because of the cold so much as the piranhas. They made short work of Captain Underpants.

Oh, and I got to tame dinosaurs! First I had a pair of small Moscosaurs, Moso and Brutus. They both died in horrible ways. Next I tamed a pair of Parasaurs, Paul and Rosa, and a Pteranodon I called Pete.

Pete promptly wandered off.

After much scraping together of materials, my partner and I built a raft. We set off down the coastline, where at one stop she was killed by a Spinosaurus. The Spino didn’t kill me: It knocked me into the river where I was, again, eaten by piranhas.

We respawned at home, built another raft, and went to recover the original, which I had named Aurora. We found the Aurora, and then were eaten by raptors. In the meantime, I had tamed a second Pteranodon, Petrina, who also fell victim to them.

Next we decided to take Paul and Rosa, our Parasaur paramours, overland to try and recover the rafts. This trip ended prematurely when I died (don’t even remember what killed me; they all start to blur). My partner escaped on Rosa; Paul remained behind.

Preparing for another trip to rescue the rafts and Paul (I’m a slow learner sometimes), I tamed an Iguanadon named Ziggy. Ziggy served me well, but before we could find Paul Ziggy passed away trying to save me from an enraged Brontosaurus.

A bit put out, I decided to focus on building our tools and weapons before heading out again. To help haul materials I domesticated three Triceratops.

And while foraging for stuff, I ran across Pete, the meandering Pteranodon. Somehow I had scraped together the things needed to make a saddle for him, and suddenly I was airborn! No longer forced to face the dangers of land and sea, I was able to recover both rafts and explore vast stretches from the sky.

To see the sunrise beyond the ocean from the back of a soaring Pteranodon is incredible.

I still haven’t found Paul, but that just means there are more adventures to be had. 🙂
