Shadowverse always amazes me. It has a better than average story, considering it’s a digital card game, complete with intriguing characters and a fine blend of seriousness and humor. And now and then it reminds me of something I need to remember. For example, this gem:

Bayleon and Valdain, Shadowverse
The Lion King, anime style

I mean, nothing new here; but it bears repeating. Mistakes are part of learning. They aren’t failures unless you fail to learn from them. Or as Bayleon would put it, mistakes allow you to grow.

Hey, what a timely insight, just in time for New Year’s resolutions! This year, I resolve to work out until I have Bayleon’s chest and facial hair. Yeah…

  1. That certainly is a good lesson to learn from mistakes and to grow from them. That’s something I have to keep telling myself. I do wish that I can avoid mistakes at all costs, but I’m all too human. Sorry, I’m perfectionistic.

Also, I hate to be that guy and I know the caption is a joke, but an anime Lion King already exists and it’s called Kimba the White Lion except it came out decades before that Disney movie. Shame how Mickey Mouse still hasn’t owned up to plagiarizing tons of stuff from it.

    1. Yeah, I have perfectionist tendencies, too. Which is why this scene spoke to me. Sympathies, friend.

And thanks for the reminder about Kimba. As an aside, Mickey Mouse (or at least early versions of him) will be entering the public domain in the near future, which means it will be legit to make derivative works without Disney’s permission…

      1. Gotcha. Thank you so much for understanding.

No problem. It’s mind-blowing watching the original series. Funny enough, I had a conversation with another blogger about Claw and how he got ripped off harder than any other anime villain ever (he’s literally the original Scar). Don’t even get me started about how that movie was involved in cultural appropriation, stealing music, misrepresenting Africa, or even having racist undertones.

I didn’t know that about Mickey Mouse’s earlier character designs but it does make sense. Then again, Disney did help fund legislature with the copyright extension act AKA the Mickey Mouse act. It would be very fascinating if people can get away with making derivative works regardless of parody or not. Hahaha! XD

        1. Believe it or not, I’ve never watched Disney’s Lion King. Western animation generally doesn’t appeal to me. So I’ll take your word for its vices and stick with my anime! 😸

And of course, I’m looking forward to the day when I can publish my Mickey x Goofy doujinshi.👍

          Happy New Year!🥂

          1. You’re the third person to say that about not seeing The Lion King. That still surprises me to this day. I don’t blame you for not feeling Western animation. the best stuff isn’t shown in mainstream theaters and I prefer anime over that, too. Shoot, I’ve even been getting into Nigerian animation of all things from some stuff I’ve seen on YouTube. Yeah, TLK is overrated and I heard that “live action” remake is trash.

Hahahaha! That would be awesome if you stuck it to Disney that way.

            Thanks! You, too!
